MGCNLCA’s Talent Show Makes a Comeback in Dreams Alive

Dreams Alive, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s (MGCNLCA) first school-wide talent show since the pandemic, took center stage last November 14 at the auditorium, with performers from different groups of the school community showing off their diverse talents.

The talent show witnessed fierce competition from three divisions: the High School Bracket, Grade School Bracket, and Teachers and Staff Bracket. The champions of each bracket won a grand prize of P10,000.

“The event unified the school community; we didn’t just want to do something for the students, but [we] also [wanted to] include the teachers and staff. Everyone has talents and we wanted to encourage people to exhibit them. With the event, we were able to raise funds for the KIDS International Ministries and shine a beacon of light on these children’s [futures],” Project Manager Nadine Julianna Mateo expressed.

Altogether, the event raised P200,000 for the KIDS International Ministries, P10,000 for MGCNLCA’s annual Christmas Outreach, and enough money for 50-kilogram sacks of rice for each ate and kuya of the school.

Choral clinician Darleen Yu, former High School Literary Theater member and Junior High School Supervisor Karen Fulgencio, and MGCNL alumnus and performing artist Feliche Labella were the judges of the talent show.

Brielle Marquisha Pua was crowned the High School Bracket’s champion for her rendition of “Journey to the Past” from the 1997 film Anastasia, while Zhen Feng Oscar Thong of Batch Jericho, who sang “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, was awarded champion of the Grade School Bracket. Shekinah Dangan of the Early Years Department won under the Teachers and Staff Bracket for her performance of “One Moment in Time.”

Following Pua in the High School Bracket in second place was That1Band, composed of Teanna Jan Ang, Vaughn Uriel Cawaon, Wilhelmut Karlance Melvincent III Chan, Janelle Dominique Lim, and Jazelle Dionne Lim, while the sibling duo No Name of Alphonse Gabriel Ng and Nicole Selene Ng came in third place.

Variety group BFF Popstar, composed of Margaux Riley Go, Preia Margaery Pua, Olivia Simone Ramirez, and Rosh Calah Tacsay, and Jordan student Adam Emmannuel Qua placed second and third, respectively, in the Grade School Bracket. Meanwhile, the D Duo, featuring father-and-son duo Daniel Dionisio Jr. and Kristoff Dionisio, bagged second place, with Jesurey Gico in third place under the Teachers and Staff Bracket.

Project Manager Kenzo Maverrick Chua recalled, “The most challenging part of hosting Dreams Alive was coordinating everything. Aside from the logistics, we had to accommodate various requests from our contestants. I’m glad we were able to give the ates and kuyas a platform to showcase their God-given talents, especially since it was their first time to participate in a talent show.”

Dreams Alive was organized by a group of Olive ABM and STEM students in completion of their Empowerment Technology project, which was designed for students to ignite social responsibility within and outside of their communities.
