Perrylicious Claims Victory In Race 2 Raise
Besting six other teams, Team Perrylicious was declared champion of Race 2 Raise at the premiere of the long-awaited adventure reality documentary last April 30, winning the P20,000 grand prize.
Race 2 Raise is an Amazing Race-style competition, film production, and fundraiser organized by Zion ABM, HUMSS, and GAS students as the culmination of their Business Ethics and Social Responsibility (BESR) subject. Open to all students, teachers, parents, and alumni, seven teams eventually vied for the title of champion.
“After some of my classmates participated in an Amazing Race activity during the Taiwan Tour, they found it fun and highly inspiring. Eager to recreate that excitement, we decided to organize a similar event in BGC for the [MGCNLCA] community… With that, we got the idea to film the race and host a film screening as part of the event,” recalled Race 2 Raise head Gianna Asuncion on the inspiration behind the event.
“I'm really happy and proud to see our Grade 12 students successfully put together a city-wide race and fundraiser of this magnitude!”, remarked BESR teacher Daniel Jon Dionision.
Team Perrylicious is composed of Sofia Cordova, Peach Dino, Jillian Hao, Gabrielle Hablero, Nadine Mateo, and Caitlin Yu, all from Grade 10 Patmos.
The teacher teams of Avengers and JHBuddies, ended up in second and third place, winning P12,000 and P6,000, respectively. Other participating teams were SisterLovers, composed of Grade 10 boys, Team Extra Rice, Bulalo, and 42 JD Gang, all from Grade 11.
The actual race was held last April 6. Participants convened at Lobby 2, and each group was given envelopes containing clues, pocket money, and tokens for activities across Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Over the course of four hours, groups dashed across BGC, tackling tasks that tested both their wit and agility.
Upon completion of the challenges within BGC, racers returned to school for other tasks at the second-floor turf area and the school gym, before crossing the finish line at the gym. They then awaited the results of the race during the film's release on April 30.
Caitlin Yu, a member of the champion team mentioned, “I’d enjoy more activities like this since we also have friends in other batches, so I think this would be a great opportunity for the school community to bond as a whole and see each other more… The most fun part of the film was seeing how sweaty we were when we were trying to catch up to the athletic people in our group.”
“It’s fun to have these kinds of activities where you can bond with all your groupmates, so it was a good experience, especially since it’s for charity... The documentary was also nice because you got to see what was going [on] even with other groups and their own moments,” Kenzo Chua of the Sisterlovers remarked.
Aside from the participants, parents, and teachers, the film’s premiere was also attended by special guests Arleia Agustin, the Executive Director of Kaibigan Ministry Inc. (KMi), and members of the Bonifacio Global City Estate Association (BGCEA).
Race 2 Raise raised a total of P300,000 for its chosen beneficiary, the CCT KMi, and also donated clothes, books, bedding, and other items for the homeless communities supported by CCT KMi.
