Live, Laugh, Love, LIFEMUN

After numerous months of planning, the MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) Model United Nations (MUN) Academic Varsity successfully held the 3rd LIFEMUN conference on campus last December 7 to 8, with 169 delegates and 32 press correspondents from 25 different schools in attendance.

With the theme “Democracy’s Dilemma: Navigating Regional Peace and Sculpting Global Prosperity,” the conference’s Organizing Committee and Editorial Board were guided by the 3rd LIFEMUN’s theme verse, Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV UK), which says “Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interests of others.”

The first day kicked off with opening remarks by School Director Helen Villanueva, followed by a keynote presentation by guest of honor Dr. Brian Poe Llamanzares, chief-of-staff of Senator Grace Poe.

Llamanzares emphasized the importance of the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN Youth, sharing their relevance in fostering strong leadership and active citizenship in shaping the future leaders of the 21st century.

The 3rd LIFEMUN featured four committees: the International Organization for Migration, the Organization of American States, the United Nations General Assembly Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization), and a Historical Crisis Committee. Meanwhile, Life Press had four news agencies: Lumos Times, The Crimson Star, The Cerulean Post, and The Canary Chronicle.

The two-day conference entailed six committee sessions filled with exciting, inspiring, and engaging debates for all delegates. It concluded with a plenary session, an awarding ceremony, and closing remarks given by School Principal Evangeline Co.

“I'm very happy that we were able to accomplish all of our goals—that the schedule [was] followed on time … and, above all, that everyone really enjoyed. Of course, it's a bit sad that this will truly be [my] last LIFEMUN, but I'm sure that the varsity will be in good hands,” shared Secretary-General Amanda Dana Chiong of Grade 12.

MUN is a simulation of the United Nations, where students take on the role of delegates from different countries to discuss real-world issues and propose solutions for their respective agendas.
