MGCNL 19U Volleyball Clinches Silver in Recent FCAAF
MGCNLCA nabbed the second place title of the Filipino Chinese Athletic Amateur Federation (FCAAF) championship last December 10 at the Philippine Cultural College in Manila.
“Being able to fight this far, the championship match is already an achievement. Although we each had our own mistakes on the court, we still stayed strong and fought our best until the end,” stated Team Captain Angeline Tan.
On December 9, MGCNL held off Pace Academy for a spot in the finals, 23-25, 19-25, 25-16, 20-25, as they quickly foiled their third set attempt at a win.
“We really learned to depend on each other and play together as a team--really play together as a team and not just depend on one or two people ‘at a time.’ The game was tight, but the entire time we maintained that hunger and eagerness to win.” said Annika Chong, who kept the ball flying as MGCNLCA’s libero.
“We weren't intimidated when they started catching up, and we kept our energy high almost throughout the entire game--something our coaches have been asking for this entire league,” she added.
But despite their best efforts, the team was outscored by Chiang Kai Shek College in the championship game,
Setter Peach Diño and open spiker Sofia Cordova made consistently accurate sets and powerfully aimed spikes, which earned them spots in the mythical six.
“Even though we came in second, as the head coach, I couldn't be more proud of the team,” shared Coach Dorog. “We have accomplished so much together, and this result only motivates us to strive even more. We still have a lot of things to work on, but it’s a good start. The fight continues.”
The New Lifers were led by Team Captain Tan and Captain Ball Diño, along with Coaches Justine Dorog, Sean Saldavia, and Carmela Garbin.
