New Lifers Excel in MUN Locals

Twenty-four MGNLCA delegates participated and performed outstandingly in the Model United Nations (MUN) Locals Conference held on-site at International School Manila (ISM) last September 29 to 30.  With the theme “Constructing Sustainable Societies,”  the MUN Locals Conference had First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as guest speakers.

Damascus student Justin Bryce Sigua was given the Most Diplomatic Award as the delegate of Chile in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Committee.    Patmos student Gabrielle Ruth Hablero was awarded Best Delegate as the delegate of Norway in the same committee. Meanwhile, Patmos student Zachary Caleb Yap garnered the Most Diplomatic Award as the delegate of Cote D’Ivoire in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Committee.

Serving as the chair for the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Board of Dais, Jana Chloe Dy from class Olive, facilitated the order of the committee sessions and the delegates.

MUN Locals is an annual invite-based conference that ISM and the British School Manila (BSM) take turns hosting and organizing. Delegates from selected schools all over the nation gather here to debate on rising issues.

Hablero expressed her thoughts on the ISM-hosted MUN Locals, saying, “The first conference of the school year was definitely a learning experience. I’m grateful to have met such interesting people at the first MUN conference of the school year."
