Makati Gospel’s Church Jr. Celebrates Its 7th Anniversary
Makati Gospel Church’s (MGC) Church Jr. commemorated its 7th anniversary last October 8 and 15 in MGC Main in Dela Rosa, Makati and MGC Global at the Fort, respectively.
The Sunday school service was founded seven years ago by current Church Jr. Principal Helen Villanueva alongside Reverend Harg Ang and other teachers, who were inspired by the unconventional Sunday school style they encountered in Luodong, Taiwan during a study tour.
Villanueva shared, “We loved how they [the Chinese church in Luodong, Taiwan] did Sunday school–unconventional. So when I came back, I told Reverend Harg Ang, ‘Let's do it also at Makati Gospel Church.’”
Going with a team to first observe the church, Reverend Harg eventually agreed, as narrated by Villanueva.
“But you know I prayed about it. I really have that burden to disciple the children because I believe what Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, do not hinder them for such is the kingdom of God.’” Villanueva expressed.
In celebration of its 7th anniversary, the Church Jr. children were clad in red as they praised God, singing He Is God (Jana Alayra) and 讚美的孩子最喜樂 / When I Praise You I Am Filled With Joy (Stream of Praise) in the main sanctuary of MGC Dela Rosa. The following week, they sang God Does Great Things (Yancy) and Only A God Like You (Tommy Walker) in the auditorium of MGC New Life Christian Academy for MGC Global.
The joy-filled performances were succeeded by seven “I am…” statements symbolizing the Lord’s seven years of goodness and sustenance for both the church and its members. Villanueva, the two other Church Jr. heads Nimfa Lo and Evelyn Joy Cawaon, along with several other teachers shared about Jesus being the Bread of life (John 6:35), the Light of the world (John 8:12), the Gate for the sheep (John 10:9), the Good Shepherd (John 10:11), the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25), the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6), and the True Vine (John 15:1).
"It's a privilege to be able to point children to Jesus and [to see them] get to know [Him]... meeting the parents, talking to them, and maybe sometimes being able to encourage them and pray for them and also being able to pray for the kids and help them see that God is present not just on Sundays," commented Mrs. Lo.
