PYP SC Organizes Trash-Sure Fundraising Drive
The Primary Years Program (PYP) Student Council (SC) kicked off a Trash-Sure Fundraising Drive last February 19 to reduce paper waste in the school and raise funds for future SC projects.
The drive allows the IB PYP community to donate excess paper and plastic materials in three cardboard boxes located outside each faculty room from the first to fourth floors.
The waste is segregated into three categories: plain paper, colored paper, and other materials such as paper clips, fasteners, and bottle caps. The materials are collected by the SC every Friday and sold, with proceeds contributing to the SC funds.
The SC came up with the project after observing the amount of excess waste in the school. Recognizing the need to collect funds for the organization’s future projects, the members brainstormed projects that would address both needs and conceptualized the Trash-Sure project.
“I believe that the Trash-Sure project holds great potential to make a meaningful impact on the IB PYP community,” Jordan SC level representative Raiden Cabilangan expressed. “By raising awareness about environmental sustainability and encouraging active participation in waste reduction efforts, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility and stewardship among students and staff. Additionally, the funds raised through this initiative will support various school programs and initiatives, contributing to the overall development and improvement of our school community.”
“We intentionally launched this project within the IB PYP community first this school year, but we hope to involve our high school community starting next school year,” shared Glenn Brombuela, the SC adviser overseeing Trash-Sure.
Aside from Trash-Sure, the SC has been involved in three projects this school year: the Exhibit of Lifelong Learning during the Festival of Lifelong Learning, the Whimsical Wares booth at the SG Christmas Fair, and the recent PYP Got Talent.
