MGCNLCA Students Bag 2nd Runner-up in 2024 Know-It-All Challenge
MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) Grade 12 students Aidan Riley Kho and Launce Keyon Ty, along with Grade 11 student Zachary Caleb Yap, placed 2nd Runner-up in the annual Know-It-All Competition (KIAC) held last November 23 at the Manila Downtown YMCA Youth Center.
MGCNLCA fielded two teams for the KIAC. The second team featured Grade 10 students Bryce Sigua, Adrian Liong, and Vaughn Khu.
The competition was composed of an elimination round and a final round, which tested students across five categories: Science, Language, Math, History, and General Knowledge.
The elimination round was an individual written examination with each category featuring 15 questions while the final round mirrored the format of the popular game show Jeopardy!, with three power-ups to assist the participants.
Reflecting on the journey, Yap shared, “It was hard to balance school and extracurricular responsibilities while still managing to dedicate time for KIAC. On the other hand, the biggest challenge during the competition was the [disparity] in skill level. We recognized early on that they were superior to us, but we didn't let that discourage us. Until the end, we continued to fight and eventually got third place.”
Similarly, Sigua emphasized the importance of teamwork and adaptability, stating, “I think an important lesson is that we all have our strengths and weaknesses. We all had something valuable to offer, and by spreading our workload evenly, we were able to achieve more.”
This is the third year that MGCNLCA has joined the KIAC. The New Lifers won the championship in the maiden year of the trivia competition and settled for second place last year.
