MGCNLA Finishes Second at the 2nd Know-It-All Challenge
Defending Champion MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) finished second at the 2nd Know-It-All Challenge held face to face last November 25 at the Manila Downtown YMCA Youth Club in Binondo, Manila.
Having placed first and second last year, hopes were high for the two MGCNLCA teams to do well. However, after the elimination round composed of seventy-five multiple choice questions on mathematics, science, history, language and general knowledge, only the team of Patmos students Magnus Cabilangan, Zachary Yap and Kailey Chua made it to the final round, joining four other teams to round up the top five.
The final round, a jeopardy-style competition, resulted in a tie between MGCNLA and Chiang Kai Shek College. Unfortunately, Chiang Kai Shek had the opportunity to pick the category in the tie-breaker and eventually emerged as champion.
Grade 10 English teacher Lucille Cui, who had helped the teams review for the categories of history and language, stated that the way the teams were grouped was strategic and played a part in their victory as first runner up. Aside from the team of Cabilangan, Chua and Yap, MGCNLCA sent a second team composed of Aidan Kho and Sebastian Gonzaga from Olive and Krisha Hernandez of Patmos.
βThe KIAC was extremely nerve-wracking, although it was definitely a great learning experience for me and the others who joined. It felt great to finally be able to use all the random information stored in my brain. And learning new fun facts was also a blast!β said Chua, a member of the team that won first runner up.
