The 2nd LIFEMUN: Making the Most Out of LIFE

The MGC New Life Model United Nations Varsity held the 2nd LIFE Model United Nations (LIFEMUN) conference with the theme “Honoring The Past, Shaping The Present, Igniting The Future” last January 20 and 21.

MGC New Life School Director Helen Villanueva kicked off the opening ceremonies of the 2nd LIFEMUN, followed by a talk from the guest of honor, Robin Garcia, PhD. Dr. Garcia is an Eisenhower Global Fellow for 2023, serving as a Congressional Research Fellow at the House of Representatives of the Philippines, and as an assistant professor for Political Economy at the University of Asia and the Pacific. He is currently the president and CEO of WR Advisory Group and the founder and chairman of WR Numero Research.

The two-day conference had seven committee sessions of active discussion, engagement, and learning for all delegates and correspondents present. Four committees were included, namely, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD), the African Union (AU), and the League of Nations (LON).

LIFEMUN also had LIFEPRESS, a press corps where campus journalists experienced how it is to be news correspondents reporting on the events in the committee sessions. The news agencies under LIFEPRESS were Aster Press, Avian News, The Daily Badger, Capsicum Times, and the Burro Post.

“The 2nd LIFEMUN was the most challenging event that I’ve ever had to organize, but it also proved to be the most meaningful,” shared MUN Secretary-General Amanda Dana Chiong of Grade 11 Olive. “To everyone who attended the second iteration of LIFEMUN, I want to say thank you for allowing us to be able to be a platform of discourse and learning for people from all backgrounds. I, along with the rest of the organizing committee, am sincerely grateful for all the delegates and correspondents who actually brought life to our conference. It wouldn’t have been the same without any of you and we are so glad to have been able to serve you,” remarked Chiong.

The 2nd LIFEMUN ended with an awarding ceremony and closing remarks made by School Principal Evangeline Co.

Delegates and correspondents of the 2nd LIFEMUN conference came from schools such as Assumption College, Ateneo Senior High School, Colegio San Agustin, College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University Manila Integrated School, Enderun Colleges, GCF International Christian School, Golden Faith Academy, Homeschool Global, International School Manila, Makati Hope Christian School, Manila Science High School, Paref Woodrose, Saint Pedro Poveda College, Saint Scholastica’s College, and Xavier School San Juan.

MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students gather in conferences to engage in active discussions and debates. During these events, participants take on the roles of different countries and work collaboratively to resolve and address real-world issues.
