MGCNL Swim Team Finishes PCYAA at 3rd Place with 51 Medals

The MGC New Life swim team capped off the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Season 11 Swimming Tournament with a 3rd place finish of 51-medal haul, including 23 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals, last February 17 at St. Stephen’s High School.

“The MGCNL swim team did their best to finish all the events. We focused on the 50-meter individual events… We also emphasized the 100-meter Individual Medley (IM). Apart from their events, we emphasized power in kicks, arm pulls, and efficient glides through the water. [As a result,] most of the swimmers achieved their best times and won medals,” remarked head coach Alfonso Mendoza Jr. 

12U Division

Alec Xavier Yu bagged five gold medals in the 100m IM, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 50m freestyle. 

Nichelle Monique dela Cruz won five gold medals as well in the 100m IM, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 50m freestyle.

Brielle Dominique Ong took home four silver medals in the 100m IM, 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, and 50m freestyle.

Antonio Mikael dela Cruz had three silver medal finishes in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and 50m freestyle.

Nicole Writz So bagged two silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke, and two bronze medals in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

Solene Faith Wong won a silver medal in the 100m IM and three bronze medals in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and 50m breaststroke.

David Timothy Yu won a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke. 

The team composed of Alec Yu, David Yu, Brielle Ong, and Nichelle dela Cruz had gold medal finishes in their division’s mixed medley and freestyle relays.

Antonio Dela Cruz, Evan Michael Gaw, Baron Daniel Ong, and Isaac Geoffrey Yu placed second in the boys’ 200m freestyle relay.

Evan Gaw, David Yu, Alec Yu, and Isaac Yu placed third in the boys’ 200m medley relay. 

On the other hand, the girls’ team, made up of Wong, So, Brielle Ong, and Rianne Avery Kho, placed third in the 200m freestyle relay. 

13 & Over Division

Gabriel Ethan Gaw took home five gold medals in the 100m IM, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 50m freestyle.

Aidan Riley Kho won two silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle, which he tied with Samuel Loo from St. Jude Catholic School, and two bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke. 

Gabriel Gaw, Aidan Kho, Aaron Russel Kho, and Sebastian Royce Ty finished third in the boys’ 200m medley relay.

“I'm looking forward to achieving the best times for our swimmers. We will also focus on enhancing their power and intensity across various school levels and swim events in PCYAA,” said coach Mendoza Jr. 

The MGCNL swim team looks forward to enhancing their skills and improving their best times for the next school year.
