Game Night 2024: Fostering a Connected School Community

As a fitting close to the first semester, high school students and teachers created new memories last November 28 by playing video games and board games at Game Night 2024.

The event was organized by Olive students Joshua Clark Tan, Marqus Iker Go, Rowan Skyler Dee, Gabriel Aiden Go, and Matthew Robert Chan as part of their Empowerment Technology social impact project.

“We were inspired to bring back Game Night because it was discontinued from the Student Government events, and we noticed a social disconnection among students from different grade levels. We believe this event can help bridge that gap and foster a more connected school community,” shared Project Manager Tan.

The event also featured a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament with a prize pool of P5,000. Olive student Gyujung Kim emerged as the champion, winning P4,000, while Berea’s Gerrick Renzo Sy placed second, winning P1,000.

“In all honesty, this is my first time joining Game Night, and I like it here and the atmosphere. [...] If you take a close look at everyone enjoying the games, it really is heartwarming,” shared Berea teacher Jerome Lim.

“For my first year in this school, it was fun; it was nice to see that others shared my interest. It was also fun that I was able to play games, especially because I am in Grade 10, which can be stressful at times. This can be a good way for me to release the stress and enjoy the camaraderie,” expressed Inigo Andre Melandres of Patmos.
