Slakwa Serenity 2024: Unwinding and Connecting With Peers

The long-awaited slumber-lakwatsa (Slakwa) finally arrived as 197 students, teachers, and guards attended the overnight stay at the Tanza Oasis Hotel and Resort in Cavite from October 17 to 18.

With the theme Serenity, Grades 7 to 11 students were given free time to enjoy the resort’s amenities, such as the swimming pool, basketball court, and billiards room, while others stayed at the function hall for a karaoke session with the teachers.

After dinner, students enjoyed more free time until the lights went out at midnight. Some spent the time stargazing, seeing the 1-in-80,000-year comet, while others sang karaoke, played sports, binged on cup noodles, watched movies, or played various board games with their friends.

The students and teachers also shared their personal experiences during this year’s Slakwa. “Seeing the comet in Slakwa [was] a fulfilling experience. I am happy to have the clear, dark enough sky capture the rare phenomenon,” expressed Grade 8 Science teacher Archie Jerome Maramag.

“I had a really fun time and enjoyed the fun moments I was able to spend with my friends during Slakwa; I appreciated that I could bond with my batchmates,” added Nash David Sih, a Grade 10 student.

“I appreciated the free time we had, no rigid schedule, and that I could do work and mingle with other students and relax,” shared Grade 9 teacher Jemimah Keren Manalo. “Overall, I’m happy to see the students bonding across grade levels.”

Slakwa is an overnight event held in different venues by the Student Government during the school year, allowing students to take a break from schoolwork by relaxing and having fun with their peers.
