MGCNLCA Chess Team Dominates in Mini Ichthus Cup

Young talents from the MGCNLCA chess team ranked within the top 20 at the Mini Ichthus Cup held at St. Stephen’s High School last September 30.

Eighth-grader Davin Sean Romualdez secured fourth place in the first division of the tournament, ending with a total of four points and a performance rating of 1240. When asked about his tournament performance, Romualdez said, “I feel like I could've done better, but at the same time I'm happy with my performance since we were against mostly college players.”

For the second division, Caleb Royce Garcia, despite only being in grade three, grabbed second place with 5.5 points and a rating of 1401. Both competing in the same division, sixth graders Arwin Cris Hernandez and Iora Megan Garcia followed with a ranking of sixth and 12th place and a score of 5 and 4.5 respectively.

The young chess players continue to exhibit their talent at competitions, showing their potential to climb higher and perform at a higher level.
