One Big Happy Family: Merging Junior High School A and B
With the goal of streamlining operations and fostering a more aligned culture within the school community, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s (MGCNLCA) Junior High School A and B will be merged into a single department beginning this school year.
“This merger creates a unified approach, ensuring consistent academic standards and teaching methods across Grades 7 to 10,” remarked School Principal Evangeline Co. “It also allows for better allocation of resources, including faculty, facilities, and materials, resulting in more efficient use.”
Following this change, Karen Fulgencio was appointed as the supervisor of the entire Junior High School (JHS) department. Raquiel Pinlac, the former JHS B Supervisor, will now be in charge of the Senior High School Department.
“The most significant change I foresee affecting both students and teachers is the consolidation of one faculty room for all JHS teachers and one supervisor overseeing all four levels,” Fulgencio stated.
This move is actually a reunion of sorts for the teachers, as the school had only one JHS department during the early years of the K-12 program. However, faculty and staff were divided into two departments, JHS A and B, as a result of the transfer to the new building in 2016. After careful consideration and planning for the upcoming school year, MGCNLCA is excited to elevate the educational experience of the students through the reunification of JHS departments.
Alumna Bhetanny Go, one of the JHS teachers, says the move brings back memories from her high school days when all her teachers were in one faculty room. She expressed, “It's interesting how they managed to fit all 33 of us in one room. It's definitely something to get used to, but it feels nice. I love the never-ending chatter that fills the room and how noisy the room gets during break time. It always feels like a party because we're now one big happy family.”
To help guide the teachers, students, and parents through these changes, the department has established clear and consistent communication channels with the help of the level coordinators to keep everyone informed and to address any concerns that may arise. Furthermore, students will receive continued support and encouragement from their teachers as they adjust to the new information.
“The strong support system for students and continued emphasis on core values—faith, character, excellence, and leadership—will remain intact to ensure a cohesive educational experience,” assured Co.
