MGCNL Scores 2nd Place Finish at JB Sports Football Festival
The MGC New Life (MGCNL) high school football team finished second in the JB Sports Football Festival held last October 14 at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.
Coming from a rocky start with two losses against G8 Academy (G8) and Arayat, the New Lifers bounced back with two wins to move on to the championship match against G8.
Audric Quing Pereaz entered the G8 rematch hoping to redeem their earlier loss, however, MGCNL’s efforts were not enough as they fell to G8 once again (1-3).
Kyle Tyrone So and Quing Perez contributed one goal each in the semi-final match, earning a win against the Carmona Panthers (2-0).
Failing to score in their first two games, MGCNL suffered losses in their first match against G8 (0-2) and Arayat (0-2).
The New Lifers recorded their first win in their third game after So scored a goal in their match against Xavier B (1-0).
Quing Perez, So, and Yejoon Cho were all given Player of the Game awards for their efforts in scoring and defending in their matches.
The team is composed of midfielder Joaquin Leon Abadia, wings Quing Perez and Seth Ethan Solco, defenders Yejoon Cho, Gavin Connor Yap, Gerard Milton Tan, striker So, and goalie Cedric Milton Tan.
All matches were played in the 7-a-side format, also known as “mini football,” which is a variation of football wherein there are only seven players on each side and the game is played within thirty to forty minutes. Goal size and pitch size are smaller in this format as well in comparison to the standard 11-a-side match.
