Zion Students Experience the Working Life in Two-Week Work Immersion

MGC New Life Christian Academy’s Batch 21 began their senior year with a taste of the 9-to-5 life during their work immersion program with different companies in Metro Manila from  July 29 to August 9.

The graduating students spent a total of 80 hours spread out across those two weeks for their work immersion as part of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) requirements for Senior High School. With most of the Grade 12 Zion students busy with review classes for college entrance exams, the work immersion had to be scheduled at the start of the school year to accommodate these classes. However, some students chose to do their immersion right after classes ended the previous school year to free up their summer break for other activities.

“We choose companies that are willing to help us and would allow our students to have exposure in their chosen fields… We look forward to planning [earlier] and having additional companies where the incoming Grade 12 students will have their work immersion during summer so that they will have plenty of time preparing for their college entrance examinations,” shared STEM Strand Coordinator Neshie Guntiñas.

A wide range of companies were selected and assigned based on the students’ strands and prospective college majors. These companies were AvePoint Philippines, DonPin Corporation, Hansson Paper Philippines Corporation, Hexagon Healthcare Corporation, IT Group, Genson Distribution Inc., Primer Group of Companies, Relive Physical Therapy, South Pacific Marble, and United Neon Advertising.

Hexagon Healthcare Corporation intern and Zion B student Janelle Lim recalled, “I’d say the highlight of my experience would be the little details they would give us, be it about how their work in their department is, random bloopers, and even parts of their college experience… This experience helped me get a glimpse of what a corporate setting looks like, both in terms of their processes and working environment.”

Through these companies, the seniors explored the professional world with workshops, event planning, field trips, product analyses, and actual hands-on experience.

“This experience made me realize the need for innovation and how you always have to be ahead of the game. Whether it’s the product you're selling or your personal career, you always have to be one step ahead of everyone else. It's important to not just follow trends or go with the flow, but to anticipate what the next ‘big thing’ is and how you can maximize it for profit,” reflected Dana Chiong of Zion A  from her time at South Pacific Marble.
