New Lifers Win Awards in Mathematical Olympiads

PMO

MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) mathletes triumphed once again in several math olympiads they participated in.

Grade 12 student Elliot Xander Albano advanced to the final round of the 26th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) after placing third in the National Capital Region (NCR) Area Stage last January 13.

The NCR Area Stage was the second phase of the competition following the qualifying stage held on December 2, 2023. Candidates in the NCR Area Stage competed against other qualifiers of the same area in the Philippines (NCR, Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao).

In the NCR, tying with Albano in third place was Erich Paredes of International School Manila. Meanwhile, former New Lifer Filbert Ephraim Wu placed second and Jerome Austin Te of Jubilee Christian Academy garnered first place.

Albano and the other NCR qualifiers will be advancing to the final round of PMO, the National Stage, this coming February 17 to 18.

The PMO is considered to be the oldest and most prestigious mathematics olympiad in the country. This competition also serves as a determiner of who will be part of the Philippine delegation in higher competitions like the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
