Grade 12 STEM student Andre Aw Clinches Top Spot in Philippine Biology Olympiad

In a remarkable triumph, Zion STEM's Andre Gerard Aw emerged as the undisputed champion in this year's Philippine Biology Olympiad 2024 : SULONG! (PBO), outshining over more than a thousand participants nationwide.

Aw, who secured the second position last year, brought glory to the school once again, clinching the coveted first place in the finals held on March 17, 2024.

His stellar performance not only marks a personal milestone but also qualifies him to be one of the four Philippine representatives to the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) set in Kazakhstan in July 2024.

“I am deeply honored to represent my school in this significant competition. I am grateful for the opportunity to achieve a new milestone,” remarked Aw.

Science Varsity Adviser Archie Jerome Maramag exclaimed, “Andre did the ground work for this feat. I thank God for blessing him the opportunity to serve the country and the Lord through Science.”

PBO is the top biology competition for high school students in the country, determining representatives for IBO through three stages: eliminations on February 3, 2024; semifinals on March 15 to 16, 2024 (top 55); and finals on March 17, 2024 (top 20).
