MGCNLCA 14-Under Team Dominates the Milcu Got Skills Basketball Tournament

The MGCNLCA basketball varsity triumphed against the Sixth Man Ballers Club team in the Milcu Got Skills 14-Under division game at the Greenhills West Basketball Court held last August 3.

The opposition was no match for the New Lifers who maintained a strong lead all throughout the game, ending in a 59-49 final score.

Riley Hui of Grade 9 Damascus D led the 14U team to victory, hammering out a career-high record of 37 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Hui’s ability to put the ball in the basket at 52% field goal efficiency was the determining factor that kept the MGCNLCA 14U team ahead all throughout the game. His relentless “bully ball” style of play led to multiple counted baskets and free throw opportunities, resulting in Hui finishing with 9 free throws made at 52% free throw shooting.

Furthermore, Hui’s versatility on the court paved the way for a convincing win, as he kept the opposition’s offense silent through his persevering defense.

“I’m just thankful the coaches decided to trust me to lead this team. This game was ultimately the result of our hard work in practice and drive to win. We were able to dominate all throughout, which is what we practiced hard to do,” said Hui.

Aside from Hui, Gabriel Liao of Grade 10 Patmos D and Jego Tan of Grade 9 Damascus A also played a big role in the team’s success, putting up a combined 15 points on the board. Both guards fired all cylinders on offense and defense, tipping the scales to the team’s favor with every minute they were on the floor as both players ended with a +/- impact score of 6.

The August 3 game reflected the formidability of MGCNLCA’s 14U basketball team and inspired hope for yet another championship in the making.
