New Lifer Strikes Gold in SEAMO X

New Lifer Nathan Andrew Alviar of Batch Damascus secured gold, ranking third among 49 other participants in the Grade 9 champions division in the annual Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad (SEAMO) X 2024 held in Singapore last January 19 to 22.

Alviar expressed, “I learned how important it is to really work hard at the things you want to achieve. After finishing the exam, I honestly didn’t think I would even be able to win something. But I praise God for the talent He has blessed me with. I hope to be able to compete in even higher and more prestigious math olympiads and bring honor to the school, the country, and the Lord.”

SEAMO X 2024 is the first in-person SEAMO competition since the pandemic. A total of twenty-two nations took part in the event, including two new participants, Bahrain and Azerbaijan.

The top-performing participants from the different countries that joined SEAMO eventually proceeded to the international round at SEAMO X.

Alviar qualified for SEAMO X 2024 after placing third in the Grade 9 level at the SEAMO 2023, which was held online last September 9, enabling him to represent the Philippines at the international level.

The competition rounds consisted of two distinct divisions, with separate rankings for candidates in the Open Division and Champions Division. Candidates were evaluated based on their grade level and not by the paper category.
