Batches Zion and Damascus find themselves “Reaching the Summit” of the 20th Ichthus Intramurals

The Zion King and the Damascuties were announced as the overall victors in the 20th Ichthus Intramural Games, with the theme “Reaching the Summit”. The event was held from November 6 to 13.

In the Junior Division, Grade 9 Damascuties came in first place with 131 points. Grade 8 Berea Bananas scored second place with 114 points, and first-timers Grade 7 Nazareth Narwhals finished in third with a total of 104 points.

In the Senior Division, the Grade 12 Zion Kings, in their final year at MGCNL, remain kings of the jungle at 136 points while Grade 11 Olive Orions came in second, snagging a total of 117 points. Meanwhile, Grade 10 Hippopatmos clinched the third spot with a commendable 99 points.

The event kicked off last November 6 with a special message from invited speaker Coach Mark Joseph “Aga” Casidsid who shared his inspiring journey as a blind athlete. This was followed by the customary raising of the batch flags, and then the Oath of Sportsmanship by the participants.

School Director Helen Villanueva officially opened the games with the team captains of each sports varsity conducting the first-ever live torch-lighting ceremony in celebration of the 20th iteration of the Ichthus Intramurals.

The highlight of the first day was the batch dance, where students from Grades 7 to 11 showed batch spirit as they displayed their terpsichorean skills.  Selected high school teachers even showed off their own dancing skills during the intermission number, featuring songs and dances through the decades, from the 1950s until the present.

With a total score of 91%, Grade 11 Olive Orions came in first place. Grade 10 Hippopatmos came in as the first runner-up with a total score of 89%. Grade 9 Damascuties warmed the audience's hearts and came in as the second runner-up, garnering 82%.

After a whole week of competitive sports between batches, the event concluded on November 13, with the announcement of the winners of each individual and team sport. A group of Grade 9 and 10 students also entertained the crowd during the intermission as they debuted their dance group Nouvelle Vie (N’Vie), with a medley of lively K-pop songs.
