MGCNL Chess Team Sweeps PCYAA Season 11

The MGCNL Chess Varsity dominated the 14U and 18U chess divisions in the recent Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) tournament last March 16, 17, and 23, obtaining the championship title in their respective divisions. 

14U Division 

The 14U team garnered a total of 17 and a half points to emerge victorious in their division.

Gianna Villacorta finished in first place with four points on Board 1, while Alexander Zheng topped Board 2 with five points. Caleb Garcia secured fourth place with two points on Board 3, while Danry Romualdez claimed the top spot on Board 4 with five points. Arwin Hernandez finished second with one and a half points on Board 5.  

18U Division

Meanwhile, the 18U division chess players garnered a total of 22 and a half points to come out on top.

Davin Romualdez led Board 1 as the top placer with five and a half points over the other players on his board. Elliot Albano secured second place on Board 2 with five points; just half a point away from the top scorer. Kyle Chua acquired a third spot in Board 3 with three points. Allie Ong easily swept Board 4 and finished with five points over the second placer with just two and a half points. Flyde Yulangco came out second with four points on Board 5.
