MGCNL Mathletes Excel in the 2023 SIMOC

New Lifers Kate Marie R. Aquino and Anya Taylor S. Chong showcased their remarkable skills in Mathematics and won multiple awards at the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) held in Singapore from July 22 to 25, 2023.

Aquino, an incoming Grade 7 student, bagged a gold medal in Math Olympiad, a silver in Mind Sports, and a bronze in Math Warriors. She also finished second runner-up overall among all the Grade 6 participants.

Meanwhile, fellow Nazareth student Chong also garnered a bronze in Math Olympiad and gold in Mind sports.

Aquino and Chong qualified for SIMOC after having medal finishes in the Southeast Asian Science and Math Olympiad (SASMO) held earlier this year.

The renowned annual competition gathered 1633  young math enthusiasts from 30 countries worldwide. SIMOC is a global forum for students to showcase their abilities and interact with other learners in a spirit of friendly competition, with the primary goal to cultivate and inspire mathematical talent.

Unlike other formats, the SIMOC has three independent rounds: the Individual Contest, the Team Contest, and the Math Warriors' Challenge. This approach promotes teamwork and collaboration among competitors while encouraging young mathletes to excel at solving problems independently.
