New Lifers Reawaken their School Spirit in Lifeweek 2024

Despite the one-week delay, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s Student Government (SG) finally pushed through with Lifeweek 2024 last September 9 to 13 with the theme “Ignite,” as students and teachers alike sparked their school spirit by dressing up and participating in various fun-filled events.

Initially scheduled for September 2 to 6, the event was postponed due to the consecutive cancellation of classes brought about by the rains of Super Typhoon Enteng.

Lifeweek 2024 kicked off with Fictional Character Monday, with students and teachers filling the halls dressed in their best fictional character outfits.

On the same day, Nerf War made its comeback, this time themed Brawl Knockout. While everyone fought hard on the battlefield, the team of Gian Andrei Dy, Juaquin Ong, Pierce Victor Takai, John Kaden Ong, Scott Daniel Lo, and Kiro Choa prevailed, winning first place.

On Tuesday, everyone dressed in their most comfortable pajamas as the festivities continued with Family Feud: Batch Battle. The Grade 10 team, composed of Ralph Jacob Fontarum, Justine Bryce Sigua, Pristine Tsai, Shanley Tiu, and Inigo Andre Melendres, showcased their wits and came out on top against the other batches.

Class Dress-up Wednesday had each class coordinating their own unique themes to wear, from Minions, Men in Black, Inside Out 2, and even Barbie and Ken. That afternoon, students searched through the school halls to gain chits from the eggs hidden on each floor in the Scavenger Egg Hunt. The chits were used to purchase prizes that ranged from snacks to old-school merchandise. Melendres and Samuele Marquez were recognized for finding the most eggs.

On Thursday, students and teachers put on their sportiest outfits in time for Lifeweek’s last activity, the annual Dodgeball tournament. After an intense competition, the team of Minjoo Kim, Seungjoo Kim, Vaughn Uriel Cawaon, Audric Anton Quing Perez, and Cedric Milton Tan emerged victorious, followed by the runner-up team of Christian Lucas Garcia, Johann Caleb Kho, Kelline Audrey Co, Adrian Zachary Liong, Ashley Mica Hayden Chua, and Sean Xavier Panganiban.

The event wrapped up with the closing ceremony on Friday, with everyone showing their school pride by wearing school merchandise as the SG announced the winners. Erin Wenelle Leon won the best-dressed competition for Fictional Character Monday, dressed as Furina from Genshin Impact, while Cara Elise Gohoc, Annika Kaitlynn Chong, Jamie Frances Ang, and Teanna Jan Ang were awarded for their shark pajamas for Pajama Party Tuesday. Class Zion A was deemed the best-dressed class with their Inside Out 2 theme for Class Dress-up Wednesday, while Chua, Maxine Joyce Yap, and Jillian Lauren Sy won for their yoga outfits for Sporty Fit Thursday.

A select few people also received special awards in Dodgeball. Kyle Tyrone So was awarded the “Skibidi Alpha Award” for being a natural leader, while Cawaon received the “Big Dawg Award” for being the Most Valuable Player. Chua was awarded the “Houdini Award” for dodging the most balls, while Rhianna Ashley Bautista was given the “Died With a Smile Award” for being the most cheerful player on the field. The “clutch” player was Garcia, who was given the “Maybe This Time Award,” and the best thrower, Dominic Chase Wong, received the “Fortnite Pro Award.” Kim never got eliminated, thus earning the “Sigma Award,” and finally, the “Pinakagwapo Award” was given to Panganiban.
