Jordan Students Culminate SY 2024-2025 with 2nd IB PYPx

In a remarkable showcase of knowledge, creativity, and compassion, the Grade 6 Jordan students of MGC New Life Christian Academy held the 2nd International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Exhibition (IB PYPx) last May 2 to 3  at the school auditorium and gym.  Entitled "Building Better Worlds," the event was a culmination of a year’s worth of inquiry and hard work.

The exhibition was a testament to the school's commitment to nurturing holistic development and global citizenship among its students, marking a significant milestone as the first exhibition since the school's official accreditation as an IB PYP institution.

All 93 Grade 6 students inquired about the Sustainable Development Goals through the lens of the theme "How We Organize Ourselves."  According to IB PYP Coordinator Michelle Anog, the students explored the “interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities, the structure and function of organizations, societal decision-making, economic activities, and their impact on humankind and the environment.”

In pairs or triads, the students prepared booths at the gym, showcasing their understanding of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each booth addressed a pressing global issue, such as pollution affecting life below water, racial discrimination, animal extinction, gender equality, and quality education, among others.

“The PYP Exhibition is one of the major opportunities for students to demonstrate how they have developed and applied their knowledge, conceptual understandings, skills, and learner profile attributes through the inquiries they undertake,” Anog remarked.

Nina Mateo, a Jordan C student, shared, “I learned while working on the IBPYPX project that everyone is different, and even though you think the same, you have to find the middle ground. Through this event, I have grown as a person, and I was really nervous, but I volunteered as an emcee to help overcome it. After volunteering, it made me realize that I wanted to be an emcee even more. I would definitely do this again, 100 percent.”

Throughout the event, visitors had the opportunity to explore the students' booths, interact with the young exhibitors, and gain insight into the pressing global issues tackled by the Grade 6 Jordan students.

Audience members were treated to a dynamic lineup of performances during the opening at the school auditorium, featuring four enthralling acts in each section: a readers' theater presentation, two ukulele performances, a batch song written by the students and a dance number choreographed by them. Jordan students also gave heartfelt testimonials about their PYPx journey.

Students were also split into various committees with their own designated roles. The shirt committee was responsible for the design of the PYP Exhibition shirts. The marketing committee created the teaser video and the posters. The souvenir committee provided the souvenirs, while the program committee constructed the overall flow of the entire program. Finally, the food and ushering committee tended to the guests and provided food for everyone.
