“Christmas in our Hearts”: MGCNLCA’s Ate-Kuya Christmas Party
To give the school community an opportunity to show their gratitude, a group of Grade 11 students (in collaboration with the school administration) organized a Christmas Party last December 8 for the MGC New Life Christian Academy ates and kuyas. Themed “Christmas in our Hearts,” the event was inspired by last school year’s Ate-Kuya Day, also created by the previous batch of students for their Social Impact project.
“Nagpapasalamat kami na may ganyan na event ang MGC[NL] family at batch Olive para sa mga ate at kuya kasi iba yung experience na makasama ang mga katrabaho sa ganung event. Parang napagpag ang lahat ng stress,” exclaimed ate Jasmin Mostoles.
The fun-filled morning gave ates and kuyas a chance to unwind with games, raffle prizes, and photo opportunities in a photo booth. A definite highlight of the program was when some of the longest serving ates and kuyas danced and sang to “Mahal na Mahal Kita Panginoon” during praise and worship –with their colleagues lifting their hands and swaying along to the tune.
During the second half of the program, Grade 9 Filipino Teacher Bb. Pore shared her testimony on being a former household help and God’s faithfulness in paving the way for her to finish college.
According to kuya Antonio Castillo, “Na touch ako sa testimony ni Bb. Pore dahil ranas ko rin ang himala sa hirap ng buhay kaya ito sumisikap ako para hindi maranasan ng aking mga anak ang nangyari sa buhay ko at nagpapasalamat ako sa Dios na lagi akong ginagabayan sa araw-araw.”
An AVP by the school community and a lunch buffet from 8 Spoons were the finishing touches to the long, four-hour celebration. Each ate and kuya went home with an Akari fan, lunch containers, towels, frozen ham, and frozen chicken–all donations from their MGCNLCA family.
“It’s not very often that our ates and kuyas are the ones being served, as it usually happens vice versa. However, through this project, we, the students of MGCNLCA, with the help of our teachers and donors, were able to give back to the people whom we truly love, appreciate, and cherish,” concluded group leader Aisha Reyes.
