JHB Students Learn Beyond the Classroom on Laguna Field Trip

As a real-life application of their lessons in school, Grades 9 and 10 students of MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) went on an educational trip to multiple sites in Laguna last April 4.

“[Having field trips] is really part of the academic program of MGCNL. For the past years, however, due to security reasons, [and] then the pandemic, we did not have opportunities to go on field trips. So this activity is the first (after many years) of educational trips. [...] Personally, I enjoyed seeing the amazement in [the] students' eyes [at] almost all the sites we went to. I enjoyed hearing them talk about their excitement of exploring the Makiling Botanical Gardens with wide eyes,” said Junior High School B (JHB) Supervisor Raquiel Pinlac.

The trip started at the Gardenia Factory in Biñan where the students witnessed the process of making bread in action. The students even received freebies from the bread factory.

After that, they were off to the Rizal Shrine in Calamba to visit the hometown and house of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Here, the JHB students learned about Rizal’s life when he was still a child.

To end the trip, the students and teachers traveled to UP Los Baños where they were given the chance to see how milk and dairy products are made in the Dairy Training and Research Institute (DTRI) and appreciate nature at the Makiling Botanical Gardens. Some students were even able to feed cows at the DTRI.

“I found the field trip pretty fun because we were able to buy milk and go visit the forest. I enjoyed the bus trip the most since we were able to bond with our classmates and friends. I would most definitely like to have more field trips in the future,” expressed Patmos A student Kenzo Maverrick Chua.

Vaughn Riley Khu of Damascus A stated, “I honestly found the field trip quite captivating. I especially enjoyed venturing through the botanical gardens and observing the process of bread-making in Gardenia. Despite the heat, I do think this was one of the best field trips I've ever experienced, and I'd like to have something like this again next year.”

Meanwhile, Damascus’ science teacher Aaron Joshua Gopez shared, “Even amidst the challenging weather, I found it to be quite enjoyable. It is exciting when I see my students learning and applying what they learned. [...] I believe learning isn't just in the four corners of the classroom, so I hope we'll have more activities like this.”
